Alice Cullen Outfit #3




This last outfit for Alice is more directed towards her feminine side. Based on Stephenie Meyer's use of characterization in the novel New Moon, I created this outfit. I choose a flowy, above-the-knee-length dress. The cut of it is very feminine and girly, just like Alice's personality. Its pattern is also very interesting and shows how Alice struggles to fit in with her human peers. She just naturally stands out. To further this, I picked a pair of bright blue tights to put under the dress. These tights really show a lot about Alice as a character. They are very bright so they show how she can be considered weird. However, they blend in with her dress, so they illustrate how Alice attempts to fit in, but doesn't succeed. She is, after all, a vampire living among humans and will naturally stand out. Her peers are unaware she is a vampire, though. They can only sense that there is something different about her. While Alice be considered weird and different, it is in no way her dominant personality trait. She is first and foremost very feminine. To play this up, I choose a cranberry colored cardigan. The color has a soft, almost romantic feel to it and when paired with the dress and tights, perfectly interprets Alice as a character. Cardigans in general give a nod to femininity and the one I choose does so flawlessly. Over the dress I carefully picked out a long pearl necklace. This string of pearls is very dainty and delicate. Alice would definitely wear them. They also have a classic vibe to them and it fits in quite well with the rest of the outfit when one considers Alice's background. Through Meyer's use of characterization, the reader has learned that Alice is from an earlier time. Her human life is a blur, but she learns that she was born in 1901 and died in 1920. So pearls were a perfect fit. To finish off the outfit, I choose a pair of black embellished flats, which play up her height and personality. Alice is described as very petite and flat soled shoes accentuate a petite stature. The embellishments on the flats add visual interest and a twist on femininity. They show how Alice faces an internal struggle throughout the novel. While she is very comfortable with herself, all characters face struggles. It is inevitable. She struggles between fitting in as best as possible and embracing who she is not as a vampire, but as a character and a person.

Alice Cullen Outfit #2




This second outfit channels Alice's tough side. I picked out a (faux!) leather bomber jacket to show how Alice can be tough when she wants to be. However her tough side is not as dominant as her sweet and delicate personality traits, so to show that her sweet side is still more dominant than her tough side, I paired it with a flirty bright pink top. The color of this top symbolizes how she stands out and the ruffle along the top of it shows how she is very feminine. In addition to the top and jacket, I choose a pair of medium blue wash skinny jeans and trendy cognac colored boots. The combination of the boots and the jacket further accentuate Alice's tough side, but the medium blue wash of the jeans adds a girly vibe to the outfit. Stephenie Meyer portrayed Alice to be a little different, so I decided to add a brooch to the outfit, but put in in an unusual place. It was pinned on one of the front pockets of the jeans. That is definitely something that Alice would do, as she marches to a beat of her own. A navy belt was also added over the jeans. It blended in with the jeans for the most part, but once one took a good look at it, it stood out. This relates to how Alice appears to just be another vampire, but is really gifted, as she can predict the future. A long, brown, crocheted bag was slung over the jacket. It's texture depicted how Alice has many sides to her and is a well developed character. To finish off the outfit I added a necklace that shows how Alice's peers feel about her. This necklace is a little different, as it has lots of funky beads in all different colors on it. It illustrates that Alice's human peers think she is weird and how she doesn't quite fit in with them. This whole outfit shows Alice's different personality traits really well.

Alice Cullen Outfit #1





For Alice's first outfit I choose a sweet, delicate pale pink top and paired it with a charcoal grey studded skirt. I felt that this combination displayed Alice very well. The top shows her soft, sweet side and the skirt adds a little edge and hints that she has a tough side, too. To portray her tendency to go over board on things, I picked out bright purple tights and cranberry moccasins. They both add a huge pop of color and the moccasins even accentuate how petite Alice is because they are flat soled. Taking into account the climate in which Alice lives, I added a wool beret for warmth. The color of this hat represents the dreary setting and how to her peers Alice is purposely ignored because she stands out. They find her weird and different, so she doesn't fit in with them. However this is not to be confused with Bella and how she doesn't fit in anywhere. Alice doesn't fit in with her human peers because she is a vampire and while they don't know that, they can still sense that something is different about her. She does fit in with the Cullens though, as they completely understand her and her day to day struggles of being a vampire in a world full of humans. To finish off the outfit I placed a long bright blue and gold necklace over the pale pink top and added a pearl bracelet. As a character, Alice has depth. She is delicate and feminine and that's why I choose the pearl bracelet, but she is also a little eclectic and funky so that's where the long bright blue and gold necklace comes in. It adds another pop of color and helps bring out one of Alice's many personality traits that the reader learns through the use of characterization.

Alice Cullen's Style Analysis

Alice is a free spirit and completely over the top. She's not afraid to take risks, but she is not wild. Stephenie Meyer used characterization in the novel New Moon to show the reader that Alice is actually very delicate in nature and petite in height. However she also has a tough side, too. This shines through in her sense of style. The color scheme for Alice was all over the place. I took inspiration from pinks, purples, greys, blues, browns, and blacks to create Alice's look. Being as Alice's personality is sometimes described as weird by her peers at Forks High School, so I decided to bring a slight eclectic feel to her look to represent how her human peers feel about her. Based on Alice's personality and tendency to go overboard on things, I interpreted her wardrobe to be quite versatile, but still have a very unique sense to it. She would wear dresses but also pants, a tough jacket but also a delicate cardigan, and eye popping accessories but also accessories that are more demure.

Rosalie Hale Outfit #3



Based on Stephenie Meyer's use of characterization in the novel New Moon, I have constructed this outfit for Rosalie. It shows off her feminine side a little more than the previous outfits, but it still manages to maintain a strong, fierce feel. I choose to stay within the neutral color palette I had been working with in the first and second outfits. The neutral basis has a very strong and confident feel to it and it also displays Rosalie's stubbornness. She refuses to show any emotions, as she thinks they are a sign of weakness. So, this color palette captures Rosalie's essence perfectly. I went with a black dolman sleeve sweater and paired it with charcoal gray leggings. The cut of the sweater is slightly dramatic and exaggerated. This can be applied to Rosalie. She can be quite mean and rude when she wants to be, even if it isn't necessary. So in a way she exaggerates and I think a sweater with over exaggerated sleeves reflects that really well. I paired the sweater and leggings with black ankle booties and leg warmers over the booties. Again, I stayed away from a flat soled shoe, for Rosalie's personality is sophisticated, but in a stuck up way, so a shoe with a heel was a much better fit. Along with adding booties and legwarmers, I placed a bright blue floral scarf over the black sweater. This scarf channels Rosalie's feminine side and at the same time adds a vibrant pop of color. It helps show how Rosalie really is feminine, but how she is powerful and confident at the same time. To finish off the outfit, I placed two rings on one hand and a delicate bracelet on the other. The rings add a touch of glamour to the outfit and the bracelet further channels the feminine side of Rosalie.As a character, Rosalie is quite misunderstood. She's so stubborn and stuck up that it makes it difficult for the reader to relate to her and it is reflected through this outfit.

Rosalie Hale Outfit #2



This second outfit for Rosalie really plays up her confident side. I choose to pair a deep blue ruffled blouse with dark wash skinny jeans. The cut of the jeans is perfect for Rosalie as they have a very sleek look and they have a trendy feel to them. Judging by her overpowering snobbishness, she would not be caught in anything that was considered unfashionable, which is why I choose a pair of black ankle booties to add to the outfit. They are very fashion forward and have a bit of an edgy, fearless vibe to them. I also added a necklace which was a brilliant cross between edgy and feminine. It perfectly defined Rosalie. The booties and necklace tie in with Rosalie in the sense that she never seems to be afraid of anything. Her emotions are never worn on her sleeve and she always seems so perfectly composed. So, because of this, I picked out a black velvet jacket to put over the blouse. It channels Rosalie's inability to show her emotions. Or rather, it channels her inability to show weakness. Rosalie is quite stubborn and thinks that emotions are a weakness, so she chooses to almost never show hers. While she may have difficulties showing weakness, she has no problem showing her femininity. To demonstrate this, I choose long, dangling fake diamond earrings. Diamonds are known as a girl's best friend and in Rosalie's case it's no different. She is very in touch with her femininity, but sometimes the reader's mind is so clouded by her tendency to be stuck up that they don't notice.

Rosalie Hale Outfit #1






Rosalie's first outfit shows how she tries not to show emotions and always maintains her composure. I choose a classic white button down blouse with ruffle details and added a pair of blue-gray super skinny jeans. On top of that I placed a black jacket with a white sophisticated pattern. The basis of this outfit is very neutral, which reflects Rosalie's desire to always keep her feelings in check. However, she also is very fierce and fiery, so I added a fuchsia silk scarf for a much needed pop of color and visual interest. It portrays how she is very strong and confident. Stephenie Meyer's use of characterization shows the reader that Rosalie can be somewhat snobby and stuck up. To display this, I picked out a pair of open-toed wedges, as they are more over the top than a flat soled shoe. To top it all off, I picked out a ring with a high fashion feel and a nod to glamour. It completes the look and adds another pop of color, while still keeping the outfit in a mostly neutral color palette.

Rosalie Hale's Style Analysis

Rosalie Hale is portrayed by Stephenie Meyer, author of New Moon, to be confident, beautiful, and a little mean. Rosalie doesn't always have the nicest things to say and is known to give rude looks to people. So for her wardrobe I decided to stick to a very sophisticated color palette of mostly black, gray, and white, but with pops of vibrant color. This color scheme reflects how she always maintains her composure, but the pops of color help her stand out and bring out how beautiful she is. Rosalie's personality is somewhat stuck up, so I felt that her style should have a nod to high fashion. She would be a big fan of heels, skinny jeans, leggings, and well-cut jackets, as they all can have a fierce feel to them. There is nothing delicate about Rosalie and the same can be said for her fashion sense. She is all about confidence, strength, and power without losing femininity and it's reflected in the outfits I have created for Rosalie.

Bella Swan Outfit #3






Bella's simple side comes out with this outfit. I decided to go with a basic blue v-neck t-shirt and dark wash straight leg jeans to show the simplistic side of her personality. While she is very well developed and complicated as a character, she still has a simplistic sense to her. She isn't very demanding and has no desire to be in the spotlight. This outfit portrays that, as v-necks and jeans are basics. Taking into account the setting of Forks, Washington, I added a pair of slate gray snow boots. The color of the snow boots represent how the setting makes Bella feel: dreary and upset. It also shows how her life is colorless and monotonous without Edward, as the v-neck and jeans blend together and the gray boots have a nod to lifelessness. As the novel progresses, Bella spends more and more time with Jacob. He begins to grow on her. So I added a ring with a boho-tribal feel to it to represent her growing relationship with Jacob. However, Jacob cannot take the place of Edward in Bella's heart, so I decided to stick with the very neutral color scheme I had going on and put a gray plaid jacket over the v-neck. The jacket ties the outfit in with its setting and the color ties in with Bella's feelings in the novel. She is devastated after her love, Edward leaves her and it came out in her personality and actions. Gone was the quiet, shy girl in love with a vampire. She was replaced by a young woman who struggled day to day to try and heal her broken heart and face adversity.

Bella Swan Outfit # 2




This second look is less feminine and a bit more thrown together than the first. Bella's most dominant character trait is low self esteem. So I portrayed that through this outfit. I stuck to a relatively neutral color palette to show how introverted she is and I stayed away from anything with too much visual interest. I choose a pair of simple bootcut jeans and boots that look very similar to Uggs. To keep the outfit in its thrown together feel, I tucked the jean legs into the boots rather than having the jean legs cover the boots. When the bootcut jeans are tucked into the boots it creates the bunched up look that I was going for in representing Bella. In addition to the jeans and boots, I picked a plain black short sleeve henley. Bella would definitely wear this as it isn't at all eye-popping in the least. It could very well go unnoticed, which is what Bella's goal is. She just wants to survive her junior year of high school with as little humiliation as possible. That is why I choose a slightly over sized puffer jacket to put over the henley. It would almost act as a shield, so if she did end up getting some attention, good or bad, she would have her jacket to hide behind. I threw a belt on over the bootcut jeans. The combination of the brown belt with the black henley show how Bella doesn't put too much thought into how she looks because she is already convinced that she is ugly. To finish off the outfit, I tossed on a scarf over the henley. For the most part it blends in with the color palette I chose, but it has an unexpected pop of color. The yellow in the scarf adds a tiny bit of visual interest, but still stays within Bella's boundaries. At first glance, one might not even notice the scarf, which is what Bella wants. However, at a second glance the yellow in the scarf displays that there is actually some personality to the outfit. Bella is like that too. To the naked eye, she is ordinary, but she actually does have quite the personality. The reader just has to get past all her insecurities and doubts to really see it.

Bella Swan Outfit # 1





For this first outfit I channeled Bella's feminine side and choose an embellished blouse, but paired it with relaxed straight jeans, tomboyish sneakers and a very casual sweatshirt. This showed how Bella tries not to draw attention to herself. She would cover up her pretty blouse because she has such low self esteem and would rather blend in. As a character, Bella is very relatable. She is really just an everyday girl, so that's why I choose a pair of average looking, slightly worn sneakers that give a nod to tomboyishness. Stephenie Meyer's use of setting throughout the novel influenced me to add a hat to Bella's look. Bella lives in one of the coldest and rainiest places in the country and a crocheted beanie seemed fitting for Bella for two reasons. For one, it adds warmth in such a cold climate and secondly, it's a little out of place in the outfit. That portrays how Bella is never completely fitting in. She doesn't fit in with the kids at school because they just don't get her, but she doesn't fully fit in with the Cullens because they are vampires and she is just human. This is one of the struggles that Bella faces through the course of the novel.

Bella Swan's Style Analysis

Stephenie Meyer, author of New Moon, portrays Bella to be very introverted and somewhat insecure. Her dominant personality trait is low self esteem, so she doesn't always think very highly of herself and hates having attention drawed to her. Bella would much rather blend in with her surroundings and go unnoticed. This comes out in her sense of style. I choose to stay with a mostly neutral color pallate of greys, blacks, and blues to show how she tries to blend in. I interpreted her wardrobe to consist of mostly basics, in which sweatshirts, sneakers, henleys, jeans and fitted t-shirts are included. However she still does have a feminine side, so I added a few touches of femininity here and there (ie. - a ring, a blouse with delicate beading, etc.). They help show that as a character Bella is truly well developed, as her personalilty has many aspects to it (tomboy and feminine to name a couple).
